With vector haken have put out an excellent album and it is the heaviest of their career.

It is an album that long time fans will find a lot to enjoy and dive into and repeated listens will unveil new things each listen.

Arguably the biggest reason for this is their dependably wide ranging. Not fair for haken but unfortunately they raised their standard so high with their previous work. To top it all off they were wise to keep the record at a wonderful length of 45 minutes. Vector exists as a massive album filled with endless riffs and robust drumming.

Alternatively i found the album to be simply typical haken and so largely another predictable practice of their progressive musical style but not without some merits of its own. It is also one of the more exciting and engaging prog albums put out so far this year. London sextet haken have always been among the most characteristic fascinating and intrepid acts in modern progressive metal. The haken virus has infected thousands in prog world and it is easy to see why.

That was my fear when the two minute intro track to haken s fifth album vector began. Nevertheless if youre a fan of haken you will enjoy vector. Haken s vector is an artful and interesting album with an undeniable charm. Its a great blend of huge heavy riffs mind bending time signatures thought provoking and introspective lyrics topped off with melody melody and more melody.

Nothing is sacrificed in this album and nothing is lacking. Vector s flow combined with a vinyl appropriate runtime make for an instantly accessible and enjoyable listening experience and i loved it immediately. Staggering live performances mathematically precise instrumentation impenetrably complex and challenging arrangements a more recent willingness to embrace variation and quite simply unique raw prog metal power.
